Photography encompasses so much for me; it's a means of exploration, creativity, and connection. My journey began with a simple point-and-shoot camera that I took everywhere, capturing moments of people, places, and things. After earning a general associate's degree at SLCC, I was drawn to the visual arts program and decided to pursue a more focused applied associate’s degree in photography. It was an incredible experience, surrounded by instructors who were seasoned professionals with decades of experience.
Through this program, I gained not only technical skills in camera use, studio lighting, and various photography styles but also a rich understanding of their histories. My interest in people and light naturally led me to portraiture, where I feel most confident and creative. As I neared the end of my studies, I began assisting professional photographer David Newkirk, helping with equipment setup and second shooting. This experience opened doors for me, as he began referring me for portraits, events, and weddings when he was unavailable.
Over the past decade, I’ve continued to evolve as a photographer, driven by a constant desire to learn and experiment. Photography has provided me with a profound sense of purpose, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunities that, combined with dedication and hard work, have allowed me to build a fulfilling career doing what I love.
